Tobey Maguire to Spin Webs Again in Spider-Man 4

Sony has signed Tobey Maguire to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man again in its upcoming Spider-Man 4 (and possibly 5). It was rumored for a while that Maguire would leave the franchise, but apparently Sony Pictures has offered him a really sweet deal. This is good news, as I’m sure it would be difficult for the movie-going audience to accept another wall crawler so soon (unlike the Batman series where there has been four Caped Crusaders in the past decade and a half).

The villain has not been officially announced nor has Kirsten Dunst been signed, although they say they will not recast the role of Mary Jane. Frankly, I’ve never like Dunst, both as an actor or as M.J. She always seems so sleepy and her teeth bother me for some reason. A Mary Jane-less Spider-Man flick would be a welcome surprise.

"Hyuk!"

"Hyuk!"

As for the baddies, my votes would go to Electro or the Scorpion (or both!). The prevailing thought is it will be the Lizard, since the movies have already introduced Dr. Connors, the character in the comics who becomes the reptilian menace. I think this would be good as well. Man-Wolf has also been considered (since his alter-ego was introduced in the form of J. Jonah Jameson’s astronaut son). If that’s true it would be a tragic mistake.
